Victoria Canal
#VictoriaCanal, a Spanish-American singer-songwriter based in London, has spent years searching for her true voice. Her debut album Slowly, It Dawns reflects her journey towards self-acceptance and embracing all sides of her identity. Over the past decade, Canal has gained recognition for her deeply introspective songwriting, challenging beauty standards, reflecting on mental health, and sharing candid emotions. Her honest lyrics have resonated with fans, and her musical talents earned her the Ivor Novello Rising Star award in 2023. Canal’s upbringing exposed her to various cultures and musical influences, from classical piano to jazz and indie pop. She was mentored by Coldplay’s Chris Martin after a playful April Fool’s Day post, leading to a record deal with Parlophone Records. Now, with *Slowly, It Dawns*, Canal embraces a more authentic version of herself, unapologetically exploring themes of vulnerability, confidence, and personal growth. The album blends a wide range of genres and showcases her evolving sound. Having opened for Hozier on tour and performed her own run of shows across the US and Europe, she culminated 2024 with an unforgettable appearance on stage with Coldplay at Glastonbury. The Observer named her “one to watch” in 2023, while The New Yorker spotlighted her as a “rising star of sad-girl pop”. NME simply declared that there was “no limit to her ambition”. She also worked closely with musician and producer Kevin Farzad and co-writer Eg White (Adele, Kylie Minogue, Sam Smith) for her debut álbum Slowly, It Dawns.
